aight so Matrix is what you call a "protocol" - that's a nerdy word for a procedure for messages to be sent.
it basically is a set of rules for a system to follow when making a chat. so you got a lotta people making systems following the Matrix way of doing messages, calls, groupchats, etc.

so uhhh... how do I talk to people on it?
aight so you make an account. but you gotta do it on a specfiic homeserver. wtf is that?
think of a homeserver as like a "country", full of people who've made their accounts in there, or made their own servers (like in Discord) in.
a Homeserver = a computer hosting users and groupchats. the creator probably set their own guidelines to it too (e.g. no furries allowed).

if you use Discord, you know Server = group chat with text/voice channels
in Matrix homeservers, they're Spaces = group chat with text/voice rooms

so yeah, a space in a homeserver usually follow the rules of the homeserver. (e.g. a russians-speaking CSGO space in a russian homeserver)

this is the single biggest, most confusing thing about the goddamn platform: the fact that you got homeservers with rules, but spaces within them that also have their own rules. like, what?? which one do I join??
My recommendation, is the biggest homeserver of all, the sorta "official" one: Matrix.org. the rules are SUPER general there, and the computers they use are BIG.
you'll still be able to talk to people in any other homeserver and everything.
